We have the pleasure to invite you to a Bepact event with Mr. Frans baron van Daele, on Monday January 18th, 2021, from 5.00 PM – 6.00 PM. The event will take place via zoom.
Arguably one of our countries most important civil servants ever, baron van Daele will talk about his long career in diplomacy. He was Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium, a.o. to Italy, Germany, the United States, to the United Nations, NATO and the European Union, served as chef de cabinet to various ministers of foreign affairs and to European President Herman Van Rompuy, and was chef de cabinet of King Philip until his retirement in 2018.
He has written down his memoires in a fascinating, well documented and entertaining book ‘Schaken met de macht’ (Lannoo, 2019) in which he describes his personal experiences in the backstage scene of diplomacy. A must-read to better understand high diplomacy and the context in which some of the most important political decisions, often with large geopolitical impact, were made, in the last 40 years.
For obvious reasons, baron van Daele will also make reference to the recent developments in the US and the inauguration of Joe Biden as next US President on Wednesday.
